1926.1052(c)(1) |
Stairways having four or more risers or rising more than
30 inches (76 cm), whichever is less, shall be equipped with: At least one handrail;
and one stairrail system along each unprotected side or
edge.
Note: When the top edge of a stairrail system also serves
as a handrail, paragraph (c)(7) of this section applies. |

Ladders shall be used only for the purpose for which they
were designed. |

The employer shall provide a training program for each
employee using ladders and stairways, as necessary. The program shall
enable each employee to recognize hazards related to ladders and
stairways, and shall train each employee in the procedures to be
followed to minimize these hazards. |

be withdrawn from service until repaired. |

by workplace activities or traffic, such as in passageways, doorways, or
driveways, shall be secured to prevent accidental displacement, or a
barricade shall be used to keep the activities or traffic away from the

Non-self-supporting ladders shall be used at an angle such
that the horizontal distance from the top support to the foot of the
ladder is approximately one-quarter of the working length of the ladder
