MCASF Launches Safety Recognition Program

In an effort to place a renewed emphasis on safety, the MCASF Safety Committee has created a brand new program for Contractor Member companies — the 2009 Excellence in Safety Awards. This program, open to all MCASF Contractor Members in good standing, will recognize and reward exemplary safety records.

Each January, the Association will collect injury and work hour data from our contractor member companies for the preceding calendar year. The data will be used to calculate incidence rates, which will be the sole determining factor in determining the top ranking company in each category. To ensure impartiality, all calculations will be reviewed by an independent party from outside of the industry. Categories have tentatively been organized into the three categories listed on the application form, which can be downloaded below.

MCASF will announce the first, second and third place winners in each category at the 2010 MCASF Annual Banquet, to be held February 20, 2010 at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. First place winners in each category will receive a MCASF Safety Excellence Award. All participants will receive a certificate along with benchmarking data. Training Director

Air Conditioning, Refrigeration, Pipefitting Education Center

Position Description: The MCA of South Florida, in conjunction with Local Union 725, seeks an energetic and experienced Training Director with strong leadership and administrative skills, and a commitment to our industry. The Training Director will coordinate all aspects of our longstanding accredited apprenticeship program under the guidance of the Joint Apprenticeship Committee (J.A.C.) The successful candidate will also provide direction and coordinate operation of the Education Center to achieve J.A.C. objectives regarding training and/or continuing education of pipefitter apprentices, journeymen and tradesmen for the betterment of the industry. The Training Director will supervise all apprentices, instructors and professional staff, and will be expected to establish collaborative relationships with members of MCASF and Local 725, as well as other related educational institutions. This is a full-time, 12 month career position.
